Thinking of joining team Blackberry from Sony

  1. Hello Blackberrians! I've been around a while, I was school age when Nokia ruled the world of mobile phones with their 3210. I've had all sorts, flip phones, slide phones, candy bar phones. Since the smartphone revolution I've used countless Android ROMs across many devices, I've run Ubuntu Touch (now UBPorts), Firefox OS (now gone but kind of replaced with KaiOS, and Sailfish OS. The last 3-4 years I've settled on Xperia devices, my last two being the X and the XZ1 both running stock software. I've never owned a Blackberry device.

Today I've decided to throw the towel in - soft keyboards and I do not get along. I've tried many different options, many different screen sizes but it sucks. I spend more time correcting mistakes than I do typing usable content.

I've taken a look and about the last remaining bastion of physical keyboard makers are Blackberry. I know of them purely by reputation and that has always been very well made and secure devices.

I'm about at the point where I'm pulling the trigger on a KeyONE and selling my XZ1. I know on paper my current device has better specs than the BB but I have to get my physical keyboard back for the sake of my sanity.

I realise this is already quite lengthy so I'll cut to it:

Has anyone else made the move from the Sony XZ1 to BB KeyONE? If so, how was that?

What is the general consensus here about the KeyONE? I'm not a power-user (I don't play games on my phone) I mostly check email, browse news, listen to music and use third party apps for comms (Signal, Telegram, Protonmail and ProtonVPN - are these available on this device?).

I've read that the Key2 is either out or very nearly released, do we anticipate that being a substantial upgrade from the KeyONE?

Thanks to anyone who can offer any info or opinions.
