A server communication error occurred...

I have posted a couple of text-only blog entries from my BlackBerry Curve 8350's WordPress App with no problem, but I can't seem to upload any of my videos from 'Phone Media' without getting the following message:

A server communication error occurred File exceeds the maximum file size of the destination or is too large for the system

Is there a setting inside of my WordPress blog or app I need to change?

...and when I follow the advice and alter my 'Setup' in this forum post: http://blackberry.forums.wordpress.org/topic/problem-uploading-from-blackberry-torch?replies=7, I get this error:

The video was not uploaded due to an invalid file type. You can upload videos and embed them directly on your blog with a Video Upgrade. Please visit http://videopress.com.

Does this mean I need to add the plugin in my blog, or update my app on my BlackBerry?

The video is a .3gp so is there a setting to alter the video size and file type?

Ok, so I guess I can't upload a .3GP apparently... I just tried to take the phone to my laptop and upload it through WordPress, and I got this error:

File type does not meet security guidelines. Try another.

So... if video uploads can't exceede 8 MB in size, and they can't be .3GPs (which is all my BlackBerry records), is there any way to upload video from my mobile WordPress App without paying for VideoPress?

  5. You should setup your blog installation before uploading video (or just buy the VideoPress.com upgrade).

WordPress has a built in list of file extensions that map to specific mime types. It will only allow uploads for file types (extensions/mime types) that it understands. .3pg is not in the default list.
Try this plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pjw-mime-config/ that allows you to add file extensions and mime types to WordPress. I believe the correct mime type is video/3gpp for .3gp

If you’re running WordPress 2.9.2 or later please be sure to add the following lines to your root .htaccess file:
    php_value memory_limit 128M
    php_value upload_max_filesize 128M
    php_value post_max_size 128M
    php_value max_execution_time 120

Thanks a lot daniloercoli... the plugin worked great to upload 3GPs from my phone! I'm now trying to find the Mime type for QuickTime VR...

I still have the size limit problem; I'm using WordPress 3.0.5 with GoDaddy hosting, I don't have a .htaccess file in the same folder as my index.php, and when I create one in notepad with just

    php_value memory_limit 128M
    php_value upload_max_filesize 128M
    php_value post_max_size 128M
    php_value max_execution_time 120

inside of it, I get this error:

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I don't know how to properly make a .htaccess file, and I'm probably leaving something out..?

  7. Your host provider may prevent you from increasing the memory limit. Please contact your host provider,
or try to post the memory issue on the WordPress.org forums. Most probably you can find a solution there.

I got in contact with GoDaddy and they helped me author a php.ini file that worked; thank you so much for your advice ;)
